Hello there :)

What a lovely spot. I'm Ruth and I can't seem to get enough of varigated threads and fabrics. I'm honored to be invited to join you all. And such timing!

I just got a variation back from the framer --
img_3383
This is "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" from A. Fox Originals. I did it on Wichelt's "watercress" hand-dyed jobelan with the shamrocks done in Needle Necessities Christmasy green. It was supposed to be in DMCs but I just cannot control my urges to change things :)

And just today I finished Blackbird Designs "My Quaker House" on Wichelt's "summer sky" hand-dyed jobelan in a melange of Olde Willow and Sampler Threads
Blackbird Designs -- My Quaker House -- completed 5/25/2007

Possibly my favorite ever variation was one I finished a 3-4 months ago -- It is a class piece from M Designs -- a personalized sampler done on some simply scrumptious linen which I'll have to check the name of again and stitched mostly in Vicky Clayton Silks (the large "R" and one motif are stitched in a Silk n Colors from Thread Gatherer). EEF scissor fob

I took this EEF design for doing this little scissor fob over one. They suggested to do it over two on sandstone linen, I decided to stitch it on a band and over one. I put vintage button as embellishment and it's perfect for the pink scissors.

Presentation of the blog

First of all, what the blog's title means?
Variations, yes, but about what?
Of patterns, threads, fabrics... of over-dyed threads, variegated flosses, replacement and conversion of colors, hand-dyed fabrics... of embellishments, charms, beads...
There are three categories of Variations:

  • Original Variations: many cross stitch designers, like Lizzie*Kate o Bent Creek, already suggest hand-dyed threads for their patterns; so in this category we include leaflets born already variegated;
  • Hand-Dyed Variations: we can tag with this label all the patterns you have stitched modifying the threads (from solids to hand-dyeds) and/or the fabrics, using hand-dyed, opalescents, metallic fabrics, and so on;
  • Personal Variations: this category include all the changes your fantasy has suggested you. Have you stitched or modified part of a chart? Have you choose a peculiar fabric (as a Graziano linen, for example)? Have you added beads, buttons or charms as you own fancy? Have you quilted it in a particolar way? That's the right category for that kind of finishes.
I mean this blog as a source of inspiration for your needleworks, to find another way to finish a piece, to try a different fabric or thread...
I'll wait your finishes' photos. To become a contributor, just write me (you can find the link in the right column) and I'll be glad to send you the invitation.
Once you post your finishes, please tag with the label I have pointed and indicate in what you have changed the original pattern.
Big hugs,
Veronica

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Original Variations: moltissimi designer di punto croce propongono già schemi con filati hand-dyed, vedi Lizzie*Kate o Bent Creek solo per citarne un paio; quindi in questa categoria rientrano gli schemi nati già variegati;
  • Hand-Dyed Variations: qui raccoglierei i lavori che hanno subito modifiche nella scelta di filati, preferendo quelli hand-dyed a quelli solidi, o di stoffe, preferendoli ricamare su stoffe sfumate, perlescenti, metalizzate, e via dicendo;
Aspetto i vostri lavori.
Per cortesia, quando postate un lavoro, assegnate la relativa categoria, ed indicate in che cosa nel caso l'avete modificato.
Un saluto a tutte,
Veronica
